OPPORTUNITIES FOR CLIMATE & HEALTH SCIENTISTS & EXPLORERS
Our mission includes supporting the creation and diffusion of new science-based solutions to climate and environmental change – especially to addressing life-threatening warming trends worldwide. A key driver of climate instability is the warming of the oceans, whose record temperatures have been connected by scientists to recent, devastating natural disasters.

To better understand this trend, we are pioneering an innovative grants program that puts research vessels at scientists' disposal for trans-oceanic and coastal fieldwork missions.
CURRENT REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
We currently accept grant proposals for scientific fieldwork requiring the use of our vessels for climate and ocean research.

Selected projects will be awarded the use of our vessels and crew at no cost to the scientific team. The team, however, will remain responsible for operational costs (including insurance, fueling, mooring, etc). In rare cases, we will consider proposals that require additional funding (beyond the use of the vessel and crew) in circumstances where the applicants have created a well-funded international collaboration and an exceptional communications strategy.

Priority will be given to proposals focusing on producing new scientific information with a clear and well-defined scientific question. Research areas we will consider include, but are not limited to:
-
The impacts of climate and environmental changes on ocean temperatures on the US West Coast
-
The impacts of climate and environmental changes on the health of coastal communities of North and Central American coasts
-
Monitoring increases in pathogens in coastal waters in North and Central America
-
Energy efficiency in hot, humid, or extreme climates
-
Ocean heat uptake, marine heatwaves, and climate feedback
-
Coastal and island heat resilience
-
Climate monitoring that informs energy policy or building design
